Seriously. No joke. I have been frequenting this establishment for quite sometime now, and am proud to say with absolute conviction, that Ernesto’s Mexican Restaurant in Pilot Point offers some of the tastiest Mexican food you will ever experience. I have never once had a bad meal there (granted I pretty much stick to the favorites… tacos, tamales, and fajitas). In addition to the freshest of meats and the tastiest of tortillas, Ernesto’s offers three items that will keep me a “repeat customer” until the day I die: absurdly delicious house margaritas, homemade tortilla chips, and homemade, cilantro-generous salsa. I am not kidding when I tell you that I could walk in there and drink the salsa as a meal. It’s so good, I swear they put crack in it.
Unfortunately, I decided to experiment with another (relatively nearby) Mexican restaurant last week, Raphael’s. Do yourselves a favor, folks… if you happen to be near the Raphael’s on Hwy 380 in Aubrey, drive another 15 minutes north on Hwy 377 to Pilot Point (or check out Ernesto’s in Prosper if you’re headed in that direction).
Here’s why I tell you this: First off, I was surrounded by WAY too many kids (it doesn’t help that Raphael’s hands out helium balloons). Secondly, the tortilla chips were uninteresting and the salsa tasted more like ketchup. In addition, the service was poor. At one point, I didn’t see my waiter for so long, I honestly thought he forgot about me (it was busy, but not THAT busy). The food itself was okay, but still paled in comparison to Ernesto’s. And when I received my check, the same meal actually cost me MORE than what I would’ve paid at my trusted establishment.
Now, obviously, Ernesto’s would be quite a drive for Dallas residents. But if you find yourself in the northern ‘burbs, or simply feel like getting out of town for a great, authentic Mexican meal, this is the place. ** There’s also an Ernesto’s in Garland, but I’m not sure if it’s the same owners.
